OPENING AN ACCOUNT FOR A MINOR Because minors are not permitted to open their own IRAs, parents may open the account on the minor's behalf but must control the minor's IRA. Depending on the state of residence, once minors reach the age stated in the appropriate statute, they are entitled to the assets in the account. Like adults, children must have earned income in order to contribute to an IRA. |
